“Uhh, you no have no passpor?” said the Asian lady as I tried to check unto our plane to start my journey to Thailand. I thought my answer would be yes but it was

no, I didn’t have my passport.

The one thing you are not supposed to do while traveling the world is loose your passport and I did just that… I lost my passport and my visa.  I don’t know if it was taken or if it simply fell out of my bag, one way or the other, it doesn’t matter because either way it was lost and I did not get on that plane to Asia with the rest of my squad.

Thank Jesus; I had already made it from Honduras to Miami and Miami to LA so I was at least in my own country.

My squad leader Ashley and I stayed the night in LA with one of her friends thinking we would be able to get the passport the next day and the visa the next and be in Thailand by Thanksgiving. After making several calls to government centers and people at AIM we discovered that it would be a full week before I was able to have a passport and visa in hand. So as Ashley boarded a plane to Thailand, I boarded a plane to Columbus, Georgia, USA, aka home.

I cried getting on that plane. I wasn’t supposed to be going home. I was supposed to be gone for nine months. I wasn’t supposed to have to pack and say bye a second time. I was supposed to be in Thailand with my team.

Obviously not, obviously God had another plan.
Just like He has a plan every other time we think something is not going
the right way/our way/ what we think is best.

So after I got over the fact that I was home for the week and missing out on what was going on across the world, I enjoyed His plan. I enjoyed my family during the Thanksgiving season. I enjoyed my best friends. I enjoyed my bed, shower, real towel, washing machine, dishwasher, and car. I enjoyed things that I would have never been thankful for before my three months in Honduras.

God showed up while I was in Columbus. He gave freedom where freedom was needed. He redeemed things that needed redemption. He poured out His Holy, powerful, wonderful Spirit. He planted seeds and He has given me so much excitement to see the fruit that He WILL bare. He gave me a glimpse of what my life may look life after this trip.

Yep, He has a plan.

“The Lord will guide you continually, and satisfy your needs in parched places, and make your bones strong, and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters never fail.” Isaiah 58:11

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6

So I might have had an unexpected detour to Columbus
but God expected it and knew exactly what He was doing according to His plan
.

Two weeks later I am safely in Bang Sak, Thailand with my new all girls team. We have our own apartment for the next 5 weeks, while we are in Bang Sak, complete with hot showers, bedrooms, Internet, a washing machine, and a kitchen! We are working with a ministry called Step Ahead. We will be helping out at four different preschools, taking Thai classes, teaching a children’s English class, an adult English class, and a Nurses English class. I am thrilled to see what the Lord has in store for my team and me while we are in Bang Sak. Thank you so much for all of your support…every single prayer, comment, word of encouragement or love is appreciated more than ya’ll know!

Lots of love,
Carly
